AFTER CARE
All aftercare instructions will be reviewed in more detail with the surgical assistant on the day of your scheduled surgery.
Aftercare Instructions for Tooth Extractions
Extraction patients will be provided with gauze to bite down on after surgery to help with bleeding. Please know that bleeding can be on and off for the first 24 hours after extraction.

For patients who have undergone I.V. Sedation for their extractions we recommend that you start with a clear liquid when you get home, such as water, apple juice, clear broth or jello before progressing onto soft foods. All extraction patients should adhere to a soft food diet for two to three days following surgery. Soft foods include, but are not limited to: soup, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, etc. We ask our patients to avoid using a straw for drinking and avoid liquids that are too hot. We also recommend avoiding dairy products, spicy foods and citrus juice such as orange juice and grapefruit juice.

Medications should be taken as directed and strenuous physical activity avoided for three to four days.

It is important that you do not rinse your mouth out, brush your teeth or spit for the first 24 hours after surgery. The day after surgery it is okay to brush your teeth, but be careful around the extraction site. It is also recommended that you start rinsing your mouth with luke-warm salt water after every meal and before going to bed starting the day after surgery and continuing on for three to four days thereafter.
Aftercare Instructions for Bone Graft and Implant Surgery
Slight on and off bleeding for 24 hours after a bone graft or dental implant surgery is normal. Unlike extraction surgery it is advised that you do not bite down on gauze to help minimize bleeding as we do not want any bone graft to shift and we want to avoid unnecessary pressure on the dental implant site.

For patients who have undergone I.V. Sedation for their procedure(s) we recommend that you start with a clear liquid when you get home, such as water, apple juice, clear broth or jello before progressing onto soft foods. All bone graft and dental implant patients should adhere to a soft food diet for one week following surgery. Soft foods include, but are not limited to: soup, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, etc. We ask our patients to avoid using a straw for drinking and avoid liquids that are too hot. Caring for Your Dental Implant
Dental implants can last a lifetime if properly taken care of and through regular follow up visits. After your dental implant is placed and fully restored you will be provided with cleaning tools and one on one instruction on how to care for your dental implant and restoration. It is very important that you come into the office for regular follow up visits after completion of your implant procedure. These follow ups are usually once a year and involve taking and x-ray and a brief exam by the doctor to check on patient hygiene. If you will be seeing your General Dentist for regular cleanings be sure to tell him/her that you have an implant and in what area so that they can use their special implant tools to clean it.

News & Events

Stem cells are cells found in most, if not all, multi-cellular organisms. They are characterized by the ability to renew themselves through mitotic cell division and differentiating into a diverse range of specialized cell types.

A research suggests that coating dental implants with a synthetic bone material prior to implantation allows such implant to become incorporated much more successfully into the jaw, leading to smiles all round.

The results of experiments that focused on 'nanostructures'demonstrated enhanced bone response to dental implants as soon as 4 weeks after implant placement.
